Actor Noor Malabika Das, who appeared alongside Kajol in the 2023 legal drama web series ‘The Trial’, was found dead in her Mumbai flat on June 6. The 37-year-old actress, a former air hostess with Qatar Airways, was discovered by her neighbors who reported a foul smell emanating from her apartment in the Lokhandwala area of Andheri.
The police suspect that Das died by suicide, although the exact circumstances are still under investigation. She was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her flat, and the police have collected evidence including medicines and mobile phones from the scene.
Das was active on social media, with over 163,000 followers on Instagram. Her last post shared just five days before her death, was a video of herself in a glamorous outfit, captioned “There is only one face and that is @nootmalabika1 matching with no one else dn I no need to see the mirror my beauty is according to your reflection. My mirror is the world sometimes it’s sweet, something better, sometimes silly, sometimes playful, sometimes naughty, sometimes jolly, sometimes kind, sometimes cool, sometimes fire, sometimes childish, sometimes matured…. according to the swing.”
The incident has last shockwaves through the entertainment industry, with many expressing their condolences and calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Das’s death. The All India Cine Workers Association has written to the Maharashtra Chief Minister, demanding a probe into the incident.
Das’s family was not present at the scene, and her last rites were performed by an NGO. The police are still investigating the case and have not ruled out the possibility of foul play.
