Heroin Worth Rs 12 Crore Seized in Guwahati, Two Arrested

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police seized 1.5 kg of heroin worth over Rs 12 crore at Khanapara in Guwahati and arrested two persons on Sunday. The consignment was smuggled from Tripura and was intended to be sold to peddlers at Jalukbari in Guwahati.

The accused have been identified as Jamal Ali of Champurara village and Salim Ali of Goroimari village in Assam’s Kamrup district. They are currently being interrogated by the Police.

The seizure comes just days after another heroin bust in the same area, where the STF apprehended four individuals. In a separate incident on April 18, the STF seized heroin and apprehended one person in Khanapara.

Modus Operandi and Interrigation

According to Additional SP (STF) Kalyan Kumar Pathak, the heroin was smuggled from Tripura and was meant to be distributed to drug peddlers in Jalukbari, a prominent area in Guwahati. The two accused, Jamal Ali and Salim Ali, are being thoroughly interrogated to uncover the entire drug supply chain and their connections.

Assam Police’s Crackdown on Drug Traffickng

The Assam Police has been relentless in its efforts to curb drug trafficking in the state. In recent months, several major drug busts have been reported, including the seizure of heroin worth over Rs 6 crore in Guwahati on April 29.

The police have also been working closely with other law enforcement agencies to dismantle drug syndicates. In a joint operation with the Customs division, over 6.96 lakh sticks of cigarettes worth more than Rs 2 crore were seized from the premises of the National Postal Hub located in Mirza of Kamrup (Rural) district on Saturday night.
