IN PANJAB UNEMPLOYED ASST.PROF’S SUICIDE: THE CASE OF ‘ILLEGAL APPOINTMENTS’ UNDER CONGRESS GOVT

 The alleged suicide of Balwinder Kaur, an unemployed assistant professor, is snowballing into a major political controversy in Punjab.

Farmer union and opposition parties have now join their cause, demanding the education minister’s arrest. Kaur was a member of a union of unemployed teachers protesting against the AAP government. 

About Balwinder Kaur

Roopanagar’s beloved Kaur died on 21 October. In an alleged suicide, I was responsible for the marriage ceremony at his house, and due to the tension caused by the marriage, he was given the name of Harjot Sinh Bains, the education minister of the state, due to the fact that he did not get married as an assistant professor.

Kaur was the leader of 1158 assistant professor and librarian groups, which was a group of unemployed teachers who demonstrated against the government. The farmer’s group and opposition parties have one together to demand treatment from the farmers.

The police, meanwhile, have booked Kaur’s husband and father-in-law for mental cruelty and abutment to suicide. 

Why are they unemployed?

In October 2021, a few days after the panjab Vidhansabha elections, the Higer Education ministar immediately joined the group of senior citizens to “ fulfill the long-pending demand”. He. Annnouced that “ 1091 vacant posts of shikshan sanwarega and 67 library professors” “ will be filled within 45 days”.

He further announced that these posts would be filled “ entirely on the basis of written tests” and without any interviews. A selection commmitee would be formed for the purpose, under vice-chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) , Amritsar,, and Punjabi University, patiala subsequently 33 advertisements inviting application for these posts were issued on October 19. The minimum criteria to apply was a post tradition degree along with UGC-NET qualification.

What are the protesters demanding now?

Protesting is demanding justice for Balavinder Kaur, who allegedly wrote in her suicide note that despite getting the appointment letter, she remained unemployed and had to face endless harassment for two years, which led to her second pregnancy. The party, along with BJP and CONGRESS, is demanding the arrest of Harjot Bains on the charge of incitement to suicide.  The teachers are also demanding immediate posting’s. 

“It’s been 22 months now, we are unemployed due to not being eligible for appointments in our hands. Why don’t you enter into a fight in the court to save your youth? If we see God really worrying about earth and water, then a life will pass by, said Yogi scholar Jaswinder Kaur.
